Sincere Valentine

Sincere Valentine is a research intern with the Institute for Municipal and Regional Policy (IMRP). He completed his undergraduate degree in political science with a minor in sociology at the University of Connecticut and is currently pursuing his Master of Public Administration (MPA) at the UConn School of Public Policy.

Growing up in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and as the grandson of former Connecticut State Senator Alvin W. Penn, Sincere developed an early interest in government and public policy and their impact on communities. He has a particular interest in the criminal justice system, including its processes, its impact on communities, and opportunities for improvement. At IMRP, Sincere will support the Connecticut Racial Profiling Prohibition Project (CTRP3), continuing a family connection to this work: his grandfather introduced Connecticut’s first anti-racial profiling law, which was later named the Alvin W. Penn Racial Profiling Prohibition Act in his honor.

Sincere has gained experience in legal and public-service settings through internships with the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice and HomeServe USA, where he developed research, administrative, and legal document review skills. He has also worked in Connecticut’s public school system and served in a leadership role with the Connecticut Youth Employment Program (CYEP) , gaining experience in education, program administration, and supporting young people.
