Matthew Hono

Matthew Hono is a research assistant at the Institute for Municipal and Regional Policy (IMRP) and a graduate of the UConn School of Public Policy, where he earned his Master of Public Policy.
He completed his undergraduate studies at Stony Brook University with a dual focus in political science and psychology. Before coming to Connecticut, his passion for public policy and civil service was sparked through getting involved in local elections and his work at Senator Charles Schumer’s regional offices.
At IMRP, Matthew has contributed to a variety of research initiatives, including projects on pretrial justice reform, competency to stand trial, and mental health diversionary programs. He is committed to advancing evidence-based policymaking and improving outcomes for populations disproportionately impacted by systemic inequities. He has a strong interest in quantitative analysis, criminal procedure, and how mental health can impact justice outcomes. Looking ahead, Matthew is looking to continue a career in public policy research and evaluation.
